Easter 2024
Family of eggs

Easter is a time of renewal and revival….shaking off the long winter days and embracing the new sunrise and sunsets. It is earlier than usual this year, with Good Friday on the 29 March.

Shrove Tuesday or Pancake Day

Firstly though, we had Shrove Tuesday. Surely a favourite day in most households, whether you are an expert pancake flipper or super shopper and pick them up readymade.

We always have crepes, rather then dropped scones on Shrove Tuesday. This year we went double whammy and had pancakes for breakfast and dinner.

The brekkie crepes were traditional lemon juice and sugar, although Sam’s favourite is still chocolate spread. Dinner crepes were ace, they were so easy to make. Everyone choose their own fillings (my avocado smash and parma ham was delicious). Follow this link for more inspired crepe recipes.

Egg Rolling

Local traditions take over on Easter – Egg Rolling is a really fun way to come together and mark Easter. Before rolling the eggs, we need to decorate them. After coming together to decorate our hard-boiled egg, we have a competition to see whose egg is best (Ed is always sure his will win! – this is uber competitive!).

Then on Easter Sunday we head down to Duffus Castle and climb to the highest point on the hill. We all take turns in rolling our eggs down the hill, which breaks the shells. Traditionally the eggs are then eaten, but I never have. The seagulls, crows and dogs all enjoy the left over remains!  It’s amazing how quickly it all gets eaten – within a couple of days all the remnants have disappeared. Our decorating has been getting better year on year (mostly the children’s ones!) here are our 2023 egg effort….now thinking cap is on for 2024 egg design!

Kula Coffee Hut

Best of all, Kula Coffee Hut will be open on Easter Sunday for the best barista coffee and fancy pieces.  Our charity of the year this year is Outfit Moray. To kick start our fundraising for them there will be an Easter Trail running on Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Keep an eye on our events page for more details.
